The television presenter had been treated in hospital near his north London home for several days with pneumonia.

He had previously suffered a kidney tumour in 2004, which was treated by surgical removal of the affected organ, but just months later in 2005 he was diagnosed with lymphocytic leukaemia.

In a statement, Beadle's agent, Nick Canham of MPC entertainment, said: "Jeremy Beadle MBE passed away peacefully today after a short battle with pneumonia. His wife Sue and close friends were at his bedside.

"In 2005, Jeremy was diagnosed with cancer, but did not let the condition affect his day to day life. In the autumn of 2007 he released three new books, and prior to his illness, was busy working on a series of television formats.

"Our heartfelt condolences go to his wife Sue, his two daughters, Cassie and Bonnie and his stepchildren Leo and Claire. He will be greatly missed."

Yes, 'you've been framed' and 'Beadle's About' were hilarious, with the public being the unsuspecting stars. Recently he worked fund raising for various charities and raised an estimated £100 million.

I remember watching Jeremy Beadle on television from the ages of 6 to about 12, when I lived in London and Libya. I didn't hear that he died, that is really sad. I thought he was hilarious - 59 is much too young to die.
