NP Rank:
Led Zeppelin going Global?
Led Zeppelin probably in top 5 list of best groups ever. They will probably go on a world tour and sell out everywhere.
Led Zeppelin performed last night’s concert in memory of their mentor, Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun and to benefit an education charity he established. He died last year. The band, who formed in 1968 and have sold more than 300 million albums worldwide, wowed the Docklands venue with a 16-song set which included classics such as Stairway To Heaven - incidentally, the favourite of nobody inside the band - and Whole Lotta Love.
Led Zeppelin broke up in 1980 after the death of drummer John Bonham, but frontman Robert Plant, 59, said their two reunion shows since, including Live Aid in 1985, were a “f***ing atrocity”.
Last night, ticket agents were predicting that they will be announcing a world tour within days as box offices around the world prepare to print millions of tickets.
One ticket agent source said: “There is definitely a full tour coming. We’ve all been told to get ready for the dates to be confirmed.
“Promoters have been falling over themselves to get the band to agree. They’re also being courted by festival bosses to headline something like Glastonbury.”
