RiddimJamaica Review:- Strictly The Best 38
Usually I am not inclined to review compilations. Normally they consist of ever too familiar singles that have all but burnt the speakers which they blare through.
Surprisingly VP delivers a toaster, with its Strictly The Best 38. A sensitive selection of 2007’s best lovers rock reggae singles.
The album kicks off with the much loved mega hit, “She’s Royal” by Tarrus Riley. Jah Cure pours out his heart into the single “To Your Arms Of Love”. Da’ville prods the lover in you with a classic rendition of “This Time I Promise”.
The Album breaks for a moment with the single “Below The Waist” by female chart topper Queen Ifrika. Tami Chin picks up back the pace with “Over And Over Again” and leads the CD into the sultry sweet “Hush” featuring Kim Davis and Roots Rude Boy, Sizzla.
Morgan Heritage “Makes it Official” on track 7, and draws us head first into a series of “feel good” singles. Beres Hammond salutes women “Not For Sale”. UK sensation Bitty Mclean “Let Them Talk”, a single from his upcoming Sly & Robbie produced album, “Movin On”.
Etana reminds us of our “Roots". Jamelody “Gives Thanks”, and Richie Stephens invites us home with the anthem “Come To Jamaica”, a single produced for the World Cup Cricket series.
New comer Duane Stephenson pays homage to the legendary Tyrone Taylor with his rendition of the 80’s runaway hit, “Cottage In Negril”. Alaine pleads to us “Sincerely”, a single which was also included in the recently debuted album on the Don Corleon imprint.
Ras Shiloh closes the album with “Need Your Love”, a selection from his recent album released under the VP Records label.
Strictly The Best 38 is a balanced blend of hits that you know, and others you may have missed. A welcomed collection of 2007’s best lovers rock reggae tracks, suited for any reggae enthusiast.
