While Britney Spears continues to pay more attention to her local Starbucks barista than to the advice of friends, exes, parenting coaches and family court judges, there is one thing that still manages to get through to her badly weaved head: the threat of being upstaged by a hot, new singer.
Last week, the toxic trainwreck nearly missed the filming of her latest video, "Pieces of Me," and only showed up after her record label threatened to give the shoot to one of their younger, hotter, less-certifiably insane starlets, reports the New York Post's Page Six.
"Jive hired Wayne Isham to direct, had all the dancers there - hair, makeup and everything," a source tells the paper. "But [Britney] refused to come. Jive was really upset. They were already paying everyone overtime, and finally Britney showed up 12 hours late -- but only after they told her they were going to give the video shoot to another Jive artist, Samantha Jade."
Jade, a perky 20-year-old Australian songstress, was on call throughout the day, ready to swoop in and take over Spears' video treatment, which centered around the singer trying to sneak into a club using a gaggle of look-alikes to confuse the paparazzi.
"They were going to recalibrate it for Samantha, because it was too expensive to just scrap," the source says. "Britney finally showed up when she realized a new, younger, hotter girl would take her slot."
Sadly, Spears' sudden interest in her fading career means we'll never get to see Jade benefit from a $50,000 US video shoot, and instead be stuck with yet another clip of a bored, wobbly Spears holding on to a stripper pole for stability as she tries to remember exactly how many Quaaludes she needs to take to convince herself she looks "sexy" again.
