Yes, we finially tested the new PS3 upgrade and it worked great!
Xvid videos and DivX ran without any hassles. There was some minor artifacting for the DivX video's we ran, but i would attribute that to quality of encoding rather than the player in itself. What I liked about this is unlike the xbox 360's DivX playback, the PS3 can automatically detect aspect ratio and re-size which in my opinion is very cool and a standard requirement if you ask me. (wow! im really voicing my opinion eh?)

Playing DivX off written media

The next thing we tested was actually writing a DVD full of DivX movies to see if it worked and YES it worked!!

WMV playback

The initial bit where you need to activiate WMA (yes I wrote WMA) playback is a pain..but thats just a one time thingy..I hope so, I haven't restarted my PS3 after that.

Dissapointments

Can't say too much, expect that the controls could have been better, but thats the stupid controlers fault, so the bottom line there are NO DISSAPOINTMENTS!!

Xbox 360 DivX or PS3 DivX

The Game Druid's Verdict: PS3

cheers!
