the only shame.. coral and shell collection at the Hundred islands were uncontrolled until around the time we were there.. the beaches were strangely devoid of shells and the crystal clear waters revealed the sparseness of coral (and hence marine life associated with such reefs). But. The locals at the time never knew any better, and while on principle i never bought coral or shell related souvenirs (i still don't), it was also heartbreaking to see that people in the area at the time thought they had no alternatives. With an advanced tourism industry and the realisation that tourists are attracted by these very things in their natural environment, the harvesting has somewhat stopped.. sadly, too late for some areas of the park.
