12 people die during cold wave in Bangladesh
Dhaka (ANTARA News) - A sweeping cold wave which affected people across Bangladesh in the last few days claimed 12 people` s lives in two districts, according to private news agency UNB Saturday.
In northwestern Sirajganj district, about 110 km northwest of capital Dhaka, three elderly people died in last two days due to the inclement weather.
Local people said they died as the shivering cold wave accompanied by drizzles and Himalayan breeze was sweeping over the region causing the immense sufferings to the people.
In southeastern Chandpur district, about 70 km southeast of Dhaka, two elderly people died of cold related diseases in Haimchar sub-district on Wednesday-Thursday.
Earlier, seven children died in the country`s northwestern Rangpur district, about 265 km northwest of Dhaka, due to cold diarrhoea and pneumonia.
Life in the capital and elsewhere in Bangladesh has been disrupted in the last few days as the chilly wind and drizzles lasted with fog and clouds preventing sunlight.
The meteorological office forecast Friday the drizzle is likely to continue for a couple days more in different areas of the country, Xinhua reported.(*) END
