2012 or 2212 the end is near unless we all act.

There are lots of rumors going round that the world will not last beyond the year 2012. While we may dispute the on the date, yet we are heading fast towards destruction due to global warming effect and excessive abuse of natural resources. Studies show that the Oil and Gas reserves last at the most only for another 100 years and Coal for another 200 years unless the dependence on non renewable energy resources is increased drastically and steps are taken to conserve and restrict the use of non renewable energy resources.   More than an asteroid striking earth, the chances of tragedy for the mankind resulting from the abuse of nature and its resources is real. Today 85% of world energy consumption is derived from the non renewable forms of energy and unless the ratio is drastically altered in favor of renewable energy, the end may come sooner than expected. We are all already facing the impact of global warming with drought conditions or sudden and unseasonal rain falls, excessive hot wave conditions and cold wave conditions battering the population. It is not God who is spelling doom for the world. It is the man who by his indiscriminate abuse of natural resources is not only spelling a doom for the mankind but also for all forms of life.

Let us see the energy resources consumption levels and how long the party is going to last.

Coal:

Coal is a fossil fuel formed over millions of years. The estimated reserves of coal are placed at a trillion tons. It is the cheapest and popular energy source. Over 50% of energy in US is produced using this fossil fuel. World over coal at the rate of 5 billion tons per year is being consumed and at this rate the coal reserves last another 2 centuries at the most. After then what is the question. Use of coal as an energy source contributes heavily to the global warming.

Oil:

Crude oil or liquefied petroleum is a natural resource and a popular fossil fuel that is powering our cars, trucks, power plants etc. It is the most abused natural resource and the Oil reserves may not last for more than 30 years if the current consumption levels are not reduced drastically. Americans alone consume equivalent of about 70 barrels of oil per day. A barrel consists of 159 liters and 70 barrel per capita consumption means more than 10000 liters of per capita consumption per day by each American citizen. If the oil is exhausted, people can lose mobility and comfort of travelling by cars etc. 30 years is not a big time and we can see this happen during our life time. Right now action to conserve the scarce reserve and look for renewable energy to power the vehicles etc is the need of the hour.

Natural Gas:

Primarily used as the energy source for heating homes and cooking this scarce resource too will get exhausted in another hundred years.

So the end is near unless we act fast and reduce our abuse of nature and natural resources. Other wise the globe which survived for millions of years and is home to life form of millions of species of plant and animal life will come to end due to human factor erasing all life forms from the planet. Nations must take steps to reduce the exploitation of scarce gifts of God and resolve to preserve life form by focusing on the use of abundant renewable energy resources like Solar, Wind and other forms of renewable energy resources.
