A 4.7 magnitude earthquake has hit near Keeler, California just before 4pm on Saturday.
The earthquake is reported to be quite shallow.
A preliminary report shows the quake was centered about seven miles southeast of Keeler, a small town in unincorporated Inyo County next to Owens Lake.
This is just one of many earthquakes in the California region in the past few weeks.

Amy this is just one of many within the California region that seem to be on the increase of activity not only in California,
There is also a increase of activity in Alaska, Montana, Puerto Rico, Utah and Washington - While the current earthquakes vary in magnitude within these regions, there does seem to have some common depth (how far down in the earth) in the earthquakes within the area of activities.
Here is the Earthquake web site run by the U.S. with the whole of the world earthquake activity (below)

Actually, according the USGS website, earthquake activity hasn't appreciably increased in the last few years, but we're putting up more seismic stations, so we're catching more small ones. The 6s, 7s, and greater have remained pretty regular over the last few decades.
