5.6 magnitude quake shakes West Sumatra

A local Meteorology and Geophysics Agency staff, Fitri, said the tremor was an aftershock of two major earthquakes that struck the region respectively on September 12 measuring 7.9 on the Richter Scale and on September 13 measuring 7.9.

She said the epicenter of Tuesday`s quake was located 1.87 degrees South Latitude and 99.46 degrees East Longitude 136 kilometers southwest of Painan in the district of Pesisir Selatan or around the Mentawai islands in a depth of 21 kilometers.
