Paschen, if I may ask, "Where are you in location to this event?"

I am in Chiba Prefecture (千葉県) is prefecture of Japan located in the Greater Tokyo Area. Its capital is Chiba City, where the previous large Earthquake hit a few days ago and cause some serious damage. Today we had two Earthquakes of only 4.3 and 3.5 a few Hours before the Okinawa earthquake wish is Far south from where we are

Thank you, Paschen! I didn't realize the photo was a farm house of yours. Stay safe and well. And, yes, it is probably not a good idea to rebuild right now.

Seems to me there have been quite a few earthquakes in Japan over the last week and a half. That must wear on the population just waiting for the next big one. Thanks for this Paschen.

Some say it is the sign of a the big one coming, like in 1923 Kanto Earthquake http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1923_Great_Kantō_earthquake
On the other hand, there is 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake, A good Friend of ours survived that one just to see many of his friend and colleagues perish. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Hanshin_earthquake
Neither scenario are desired though. I try to get more on it from the University in Tokyo and the Experts.

As far as Earth science goes you are actually safer now. What causes an earthquake is most often the result the tension between to tetonic plates finaly releasing hence why if you live in a active geological area (the entire ring of fire is) you should prefer these small quakes.
It is a shame though Okinawa is my second home spent 3 1/2 years living on that island and my family is getting ready to move to Yokuska for 3+ years.

Very true Okimar, it is better to have many smaller Earthquakes then few mega once. Still 6.8 is no longer small. 1 to 5 can be called small. Above 5 it is starting to get serious.
The Fire belt will always be home to Earthquakes, that does not make it any less of a disaster or concern since you have one of the highest population densities in the World here as well.
Over the past 20 years there has been a documented increase of seismic activity by 30% and this is of concern and can not be ignored either.

Maybe it is Godzilla letting one rip after a night of Japanese curry and saki?

That might almost be funny if you knew how to spell.
