A 6.9-magnitude earthquake has hit the coast of Hokkaido, Japan, the US Geological Service reports. Two nuclear power plants are in the affected area.
­The quake that occurred at 11:17 pm (14:17 GMT) was marked 5 upper at JMA Seismic Intensity in several places in Hokkaido.
According to the USGC, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 120 kilometers.
