Guam Earthquake: No Widespread Tsunami Risk
An earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale hit the Mariana Islands, roughly 230 miles from Guam. (USGS data on Guam earthquake)
So far, no injuries have been reported and no widespread tsunami threat has been issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
But the centre cautioned that earthquakes of this size can generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within 100 kilometres of the earthquake epicentre.
