80 people are still missing and feared buried in a landslide in the remote area of Wulong County in the Chongqing municipality of China. A mountain collapsed onto an iron ore mine and six houses in the area.

The workers, residents and even passers by could be trapped. Seven people have been pulled out alive and sent to hospital; four are n serious condition. Power is also cut to the area and telephone lines are currently down as well.

An official from the county's Tiekuang town, who would only give his surname Zhang, said the toll to this point was only a "preliminary estimate."

"Telephone communications have been cut, and there is no mobile phone signal," Zhang told AFP by phone.

As the area is so remote, it took a while for rescuers to reach the area, but at least 10 doctors are reported to be on scene.
Two bodies have been recovered so far.

It is not known what caused the landslide, but China's mining industry is dangerous and thousands of miners are suspected to die each year due to bad safety practices and land subsidence, cave-ins and landslides.
There are tens of thousands of illegal mines in the country as well, and although the government is trying to shut them down, many more start every day.
