91 killed in C Java natural disaster

Semarang, C Java (ANTARA News) - The recent spate of natural disasters
hitting the Indonesian province of Central Java left 91 people dead and
74 others seriously injured.

A total of 67 houses collapsed, 661 seriously damaged, and 2,663 others
lightly damaged in the natural disasters between December 17, 2007 and
January 7, 2008, Chief of the Central Java Mitigation Task Force Achmad
Rofai said on Monday.

The natural disasters included floods, landslides and whirlwinds.

The Central Java Provincial Legislative Body (DPRD) urged the local
administration to allocate a special budget to rehabilitate and
reconstruct disaster-hit areas.

Earlier, Central Java Governor H Ali Mufiz said in implementing the
emergency response phase the local government would give priority to
efforts to speed up evacuation of victims, and distribution of
logistics.(*) END
