'No Leak' from Aban Pear Natural Gas Platform

The Aban Pearl, a Venezuelan natural gas platform drilling in the Mariscal Sucre project, which has been underway for a week, keeled over and sank on May 13.

Energy and Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez said that the rig's safety valves were properly activated, so no gas was leaking.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez broke the news via his Twitter account:, saying that the Aban Pearl sank, but all 95 workers were rescued.

Con pesar les informo q se hundió la plataforma gasifera Aban Pearl hace pocos momentos. La buena noticia es q los 95 trabajadores a salvo..
The Aban Pearl platform was drilling in the Mariscal Sucre offshore natural gas project, off the coast of Venezuela's Sucre state.

The Aban Pearl is owned by Aban Offshore Ltd., an Indian company, and was operated by PDVSA, which is Venezuela's state-run oil company.
