After me the flood though
I have to admit that I do care about climate change. As much as Jeremy Clarkson does. But is it really such a big thing that 'green people' love to call a climate change?
Year after year discussions about global warming been going on without any action. Till suddenly something happened and everyone gathered in Copenhagen. But isn't it a bit too late to act. And in general – is it even worth trying?
Decades ago people were happy to have something on the dinner table and able to afford a car. Today an eight year old will mess up with his food at the dinner table and make the most ridiculous Christmas wish list. Admit – we became spoiled. Today all shopping is done by car and all problems solved by using a mobile phone.
Throughout the year engineers are trying to make our lives easier. But what we do is spoil all their effort. Economies are rapidly developing to supply us with every day products, offer attractions and make our miserable lives more attractive. But all that is turning us into little gnomes.
Today major countries are told to cut their carbon emissions but nothing is told about developing countries. On the other hand there's nothing to talk about – they are catching us up. After a decade or two they will be told to do the same what we are told to do today or, maybe even been told yesterday.
China and US, in my eyes, are the most climate 'friendly' countries. While Americans enjoy a holiday trips in their pick-up trucks, which use more oil than a tanker which shifted it to the country. And if there's only one tanker, there's really much more pick-up trucks. Obama once mentioned to try and cut Americans CO2 emissions. But will a fat American fit into normal European car, let's say a VW Golf. The answer, simply, is no.
China, on the other hand, at some point should get the right to be less CO2 friendly. Why? Well, think – half or your Christmas presents are made and shipped from China. So, should they get less restrictions or shall we pay more for the same things?
No sex – less pollution. You could form such opinion not long ago. In other words – family planning. Not a new thing that soon there will be more people than we are able to feed. And that brings up a pretty clear view – big families and their carbon print. Am from two kids family and, from my point of view, that's large and happy family. I simply can't understand how can someone have 5 or six kids even when they are unable to afford one. That won't help neither to the child himself neither to the planet. But family planning, as such thing, is probably completely unknown in some African countries. They will catch up. But it can be a bit too late.
China's one child policy is a pretty good point – plan future not only within your family limits.
Even despite some things, I do support some 'green' ideas. I'm not using car to get just round the corner. It's a waste of money. If you'll count you'll see what I mean. Take two ways for transport – car and bus. Using a car you pay for petrol, running costs, insurance and parking fees. In total it will come up as a pretty huge number. And half of that will be spend almost for nothing. Not all of us likes bus. Yes, it's not the most comfortable way for travelling but it's much cheaper. You pay for you ticket and don't have to worry almost about anything else. The cheapest, most climate friendly and healthiest way is to use yourself. Most probably forgot about such a thing like walking. And quiet a few now can't fit into their pick-up trucks. Why some people drive everywhere and in the end of the day makes their way to a sport club?
If we will cut at least a bit of our used petrol amount, we'll save couple year of our lives. And couple year for upcoming generation. When we'll start using less oil, there will be less tankers floating the oil all around the globe. We will save some for future.
Now Christmas is approaching. If you're from a well developed country you'll probably already done you list and got all presents. But now it all comes to packing. It's a waste again. And shopping for kids is a waste of money, time and creativity.
There's a massive market for toys. And a massive profit for toy makers. If you're a parent and will start counting how much you will have to spend on kids presents, sorry, you probably don't fancy to start counting that. And after presents will be unwrapped, paper thrown into bin and toy been used for five times it will start picking dust in the furtherest wardrobe corner. Most fancy some toys because their friends got one. Again – a waste of money and resources.
People say – if you want to be rich, don't have kids. True at some point.
I can fully understand people living in the country and owning big 4x4 cars. It's a must for them. But is it a must for us, living in the city? The answer is no – we don't need big cars in the city (that excludes vans for deliveries of course). It's a waste of oil and place.
But sometimes, even sharing few ideas, I can't understand 'green people'. 'Save the planet for future!' What future – I always want to ask. Decades ago people thought how to make their miserable lives more attractive and now we are told to stop doing that. You will ask if that's fear – of course it's not. We should enjoy our lives as much as people before us did. Of course now we got more opportunities but isn't it an advantage?
If I love chocolate and someone, talking green language, doesn't fancy that, should I stop eating? If to say the true – I'll enjoy my chocolate in front of his face.
I may have kids in future but now I won't stop having holiday in Egypt or Morocco just to decrease carbon emission and save the planet for my kids. I won't stop driving but I won't use car as an excuse to make a trip to a shop round the corner. I will buy things made in China, if they will be worth the price I'll have to pay. I still won't understand American lifestyle and judge them for everything they do. And finally – I will enjoy my life even what the price will be. And finally - after me the flood though...

Sadly after you the flood. I rather leave this planet in better condition then I fund it. But that is me and maybe I am that way because I do have Children and nephews and love them dearly as well.
Good post though and well done. Thanks.
