Aftershocks continue to rattle Bengkulu

The epicenter of the first earthquake was located at 8.03 degrees southern latitude and 107.74 degrees eastern longitude, around 94 km southwest of Tasikmalaya, West Java, at a depth of 30 km, a spokesman of the national Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG), Edison Gurning, said in a press statement made available to ANTARA.

The 4.7-magnitude earthquake could be felt at II-III MMM (Modified Mercalli intensity) in Tasikmalaya and Pangandaran.

The second earthquake`s epicenter was located at 8.44 degrees southern latitude and 108.01 degrees eastern longitude, around 125 km southwest of Tasikmalaya.

The 4.5-magnitude earthquake could be felt at II-III MMI in Pangandaran and at II MMI in Tasikmalaya.

Indonesia sits on the seismically active "Pacific Ring of Fire" and experiences frequent earthquakes as well as tsunamis triggered by underwater earthquakes.
