Denpasar, Indonesia (ANTARA News) - Newly minted Nobel laureate Al Gore
arrived Thursday in Bali, where he was expected to launch a last-minute
push for a breakthrough in deadlocked climate change talks.
The former US vice president and environmental activist landed at the
Indonesian island's main airport, an AFP photographer said, three days
after he shared the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo for his campaigning.
Gore, who became a tireless green activist after narrowly losing the
race for the White House to George W. Bush in 2000, was scheduled to
address a side event in Bali and meet key players in the climate debate.
He arrived just after UN climate chief Yvo de Boer warned that talks were in trouble with less than a day to strike a deal.
The Bush administration has rejected EU-led calls to specify a goal of
cutting greenhouse gases blamed for global warming after the Kyoto
Protocol's commitments expire in 2012. (*)
