'Alien' life forms captured on film

Makes you wonder what else is there to be captured. This looks very exotic.

A secret Malaysian probe has captured amazing images of a weird life form - perhaps the first indication of what alien life looks like.

The probe, code named the PSA 530, captured these images of this strange life form today.

A spokesman for the consortium, who wished to remain unnamed, said it was exciting that this probe, send to to the far flung reaches had managed to do what the two other exploration superpowers had been unable to achieve.

Looks like some nice photography of either a grasshopper or praying mantis.    ;}

Is the source for the "secret consortium" also busy sourcing John McCain stories? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Secret probe and 'far flung regions'... no mention of space, ocean, jungle, etc. Interesting, but not so deep on the details. Funny stuff.

Yes. Dare I say "fishy"? Those pictures look like a plain old stick bug to me. "Secret Malaysian probe". Ha!

Yeah, I'm gonna go with "walking stick".

Ah! good to see you have all had your thinking caps on.

Of course - there is no mention of outer space, and it is a secret because the consortium, the owners of the photographic probe did not tell anyone.

I'll give 5 points to anyone who can successfully identify the Malasian probe by its code name.

Also, if we want to start playing this game, the word alien does not necessarily mean 'extraterrestrial'.

I'm not convinced though that it's appropriate that readers should have to decipher news stories.

People have to decipher news stories all the time. Trouble is most are incapable of doing so. Just look at the spin that is evident is so many news stories every day.

Thinking helps develop an enquiring mind - not all that you read is read in the way it is intended, or is written in such a way to push some facts in front of others, to imply a different reality. It may still be true, as this story is 100% true, but how you read it what is written and how your brain interprets it.

The bottom line - this story falls within the bounds of news as defined when I was an editor at NP. Maybe not about missiles shooting down satellites, or political news, but news none-the-less ;)

The 5 points are still up for grabs.

I didn't realize we were trying to teach people how to think. I was taught as a journalist that it is my job to make things as clear as possible. I never questioned the newsworthiness of this story.

Oh I relise you were not questioning it - nor was I trying to make people think, but it is good they that they are.

My last comment re newsworthiness  was to eludicate to people to expand their minds on what is news. It is in the discussion area after all ;)
