At least 175,000 customers in Michigan are still without power as crews scramble to restore electricity to affected areas.

Various power companies have said that more than 413,000 customers were affected on Sunday after high winds blew over power lines.

More than 175,000 electric customers in Michigan remained without power on Monday as utilities worked to restore service knocked out by high winds that moved through the state on Sunday, utilities said.

More than 413,000 customers across the state were affected on Sunday as 60 mph winds knocked tree limbs into power lines.

Almost 150,000 people in rural Ontario are still without power, according to Hydro One's website. Power was knocked out for almost 230,000 homes as a wind storm swept through the province over the weekend.

The power company says service will be restored for most people today, but some may be out of luck until the middle of the week.

But officials also warned that some customers in the province may have to wait until midweek before their electricity is restored.

About 149,000 Hydro One customers were still without power in southwest and central Ontario on Monday morning, according to the utility's website.

Days of heavy snowfall over the holiday in Canada turned into a big thaw on the weekend as temperatures rose above zero in some areas, causing fears of flooding while high winds knocked out power to thousands in Ontario and Quebec.

Hopefully it doesn't get too cold here. Otherwise it'll be really miserable without power.

That is a lot of Households to be with out power, especially in winter.

I wonder if putting those line underground may not avoid such massive power outages and be most cost effective as well, at least in the long run.

I didn't lose power, but my friend, along the Lake, lost it for over 8 hours.  Caught a picture last night of a tree down in my neighborhood.

The entire northeastern part of North America shares a power grid so problems in Ontario could affect Michigan, Quebec, Manitoba, New York and Minnesota and vice versa.

Yup, we had that happen, summer of 2003,  50 million people without power in Ontario and seven US states.

It took Hydro One only 3 days to fully restore power to Ontario citizens. Hopefully they'll do just as well this time around.
