NP Rank:
Another beluga pregnant at Vancouver aquarium
Another Beluga whale is pregnant at the Vancouver aquarium, and Aurora, the expectant mom, who herself became a grandmother about 20 months ago, is now expecting a calf of her own.
"We're very happy, very excited to announce that Aurora is pregnant," said Martin Haulena, a Vancouver aquarium veterinarian. "She's likely due in June or July of this year."
He said blood tests and an ultrasound indicate the calf is healthy.
"Aurora is doing very, very well."
Beluga whales have a gestation period of 14 to 16 months so Aurora has likely been pregnant for about a year now. So far everything is looking good and seems to be on track.

Aurora has been a grandmother to Tiqa for 7 months, not 20 months. and Aurora has had a previous calf, Tuvaq, who lived until near his 4th birthday (I think it was 4). In addition, Qila, is obviously, Aurora's baby too, which means that this newest addition will be Aurora's 3rd calf (that I know of). I am a volunteer at the aquarium. I am happy to hear of this news, but the beluga family tree is getting complicated!

That's fantastic! Tiqa is just so cute!
It's quite exciting for the aquarium and the city of Vancouver - I bet that it will boost tourism even more!
