An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale shook various parts of Pakistan early Monday (just 30 minutes ago), awakening people who ran out of houses in panic.
There were no immediate reports of damage in the quake which hit at 4.20 a.m. local time. According to preliminary reports, the cities of Islamabad, Swat, Chitral, Gilgit, Buner, Peshawar, Abbotabad, Kohat, Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala as well as Pakistan-controlled part of Kashmir were jolted.
According to the Metereological Department, the epicentre of the earthquake was in Hidukash Range..
As the writer was trying to sleep for the past couple of hours and the quake shattered my effort to go to sleep, I thought it necessary to inform the NP readers about the happening..
Earlier, a tremor measuring 5.9 had struck parts of Pakistan in the wee hours of Sunday, leaving five people injured in different parts of the North West Frontier Province while one woman had reportedly died of heart failure because of the earthquake.

Those are the worth, in the middle of winter and hard to access area. However what was the intensity of that earth quake? 5.7 can be okay if the intensity is low, yet 4.5 can be devastating if the intensity is high.

It was really terrible. For a moment, I thought the earth is going upside down. However, only one jolt was in fact of high intensity.
