MUSSOORIE, 5 Dec: The wildlife of the forest area around Mussoorie is in acute danger due to poaching and construction activities. Already, the wild pheasants are on the verge of extinction from Mussoorie, as labourers are working on the new construction site under the nose of the forest officials despite the Supreme Court ban. The labourers are taking advantage of the fog and mist that surrounds the area during winters and are busy killing wild rabbits, pheasants and, if lucky, some wild boars, according to the locals in the area.
Forest officials, under condition of anonymity, said that the lack of staff was the main hindrance in catching the perpetrators in Mussoorie, as they had to keep a check on the illegal construction taking place in the forest area.
However, the real story is that the officials are more interested in the illegal construction activities, as it was more lucrative than catching a few poachers.

The biggest catastrophe to strike the Mussoorie Hills is the proposal of the Uttrakhand Tourism Board to construct commercial hotels at Hathipaon which is going to be a terminal on an 11 km ropeway from Dehradun. The Hathipaon area is part of the Benog sanctuary, has the George Everest Heritage Property and is the most pristine and natural beauty in Mussorie. It will be sad to see it destroyed. For details of this project see thw website of Uttrakhand Tourism Board.

I hope someone does something about it and stops this project
