MONTREAL (AFP) — Arctic sea ice is melting "significantly faster" than predicted and is approaching a point of no return, conservation group the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) warned in a new study.
The volumes of the Greenland Ice Sheet and ice in the Arctic Ocean were estimated at 2.9 million and 4.4 million cubic metres respectively in September 2007 -- the lowest ever levels recorded, the organization said Wednesday.

That is so scary - is there an estimate for how long it will be until there is no ice left, and it won't refreeze?

Amy,
Scientists have stated that they expect the arctic to be completely ice free by or before the year 2040. What we should all be worried about is not so much the melting of the ice in the arctic, but rather the melting of the glaciers in Greenland as well as all inland glaciers or mountain glaciers. The melting of these large masses of ice will cause a dramatic rise in ocean levels thus inundating coast lines across the globe. This is also happening quickly and will have a devastatiing effect on our way of life.

That is so soon! I didn't know it was that quick. The amound that sea levels are going to rise is what scares me as it will mean whole cities will disappear and millions of people will be displaced.
