Are Mermaids Real? Never Before Seen Video of Body Found on Beach

A video released to Animal Planet (that appears below) for the Sunday night special of Mermaids: The Body Found may have proof that mermaids are real.

Could mermaids actually exist?

A documentary on Animal Planet that aired on Sunday Night called "Mermaids: The Body Found" posed questions like, what would mermaids look like (let's just say, these CGI mermaids weren't wearing bikini tops made out of sea shells) and how would they reproduce? The theories traveled back farther than seven billion years ago.

The film contained never previously aired footage of what was purported to be a mermaid washed up on a beach in Washington State. Not only was the creature alive, it was far removed from the hair-combing fairytale mermaids of yore, and it seemed pretty pissed.

The documentary explained how the mermaids began showing up on shore, when it was always believed they didn't want to be seen in the first place. The United States Navy was practicing under water sonar, and began killing whales with the sounds as blunt force trauma, and as the whales washed up on shore dead, so did other creatures, creatures that scientists in hazmat outfits kept the public from seeing.

There are some facts that are substantial. There is an unidentified sound that has been captured at least twice by researchers. It emanates from the depths of the ocean and appears to be organic in nature. No scientist has been able to identify what creature made the sound, but it definitely appears to be a highly-advanced communication system of some sort. Similar to a dolphin, but still distinct. It’s nicknamed “The Bloop,” and it has confounded many theorists for years.

Also, humans have subcutaneous fat that helps warm our bodies (similar to dolphins and whales). We can hold our breath for a long period of time. We don’t have hair over our body like our ancestors or ape cousins and we have partial webbing between our fingers and toes (perhaps to help us swim?). We have an instinctual ability to survive in water.

When the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA, pronounced "Noah") team captured a DNA sample of a creature and sent it to labs in the United States and South Africa. Eventually, South Africa responded, but the DNA was so close to human DNA, the lab claimed that the sample had been contaminated with human DNA and was thrown out.

I don't know about you, but consider me a believer, and bet your bottom dollar I will think twice before jumping into deep water.

Scott,

The video shown above isn't the real footage, if you actually watched the whole doc. You would know this. The real footage was shown towards the end of the doc and didn't last very long

I agree the video is most likely a fake. I do believe that there is a possibility of life that we have never identified, if any reader believes that we in our human condition know all and have discovered all the wonders of our planet, you really should look at the verifiable discoveries that are made every year. So, in the infinite design of our world...there will be discoveries for hundreds of years. I do not believe in the theory of evolution. I believe we have actually de-volved. We are more susceptible to illness than our ancestors, we live shorted lives...and we are dumber now than ever (all proven facts). So to believe in evolution would suggest that we are progressing as a species and in fact we are doing the opposite.

How true! Sad, but true....

mermaids are real. im not saying that because of this video. im saying it because look through history at all these cultures with mermaids. greeks vikings and a version of the christian bible yes the bible has mermaids.  The Nuremburg Bible how how could some of the earliest people have pictures and stories about mermaids who could not contact each other know about the same thing

Please our government covers everything up. They will tell you otherwise for everything that is uncovered. Discovery channel is not one to put FICTION on. It's funny so many of you think it was hoaxed well our species of human as noted is closed minded and the majority of you fall into it. If you do research you will see that the beaching of those whales really did happen. The quantity of beaching was too big to be a coincidence. Scientists dont believe in anything unless they test and poke just like our government and these scientist are actually speaking out. I dont think our goverment will be happy about that. It does not take a rocket scientist to know what our government will say in reply to these footages. Whatever our government finds they will test and poke. You would be a fool to believe otherwise.

So lets get this straight, so called mermaids evolved (if you subscribe to the theory of evolution) over millions of years, adapted to their respective environments by developing the capability to produce sound via a melon--similar to dolphins and whales--rid themselves of legs and feet in lieu of an elongated ridgeline to fluke, webbed hands and the ability to hold their breath for extended periods of time. Yet they, kept their nose, they kept their 'ape like' teeth (dolphins and whales have conical teeth), surely they kept their one stomach as opposed to 4 (much more like a cow). I'm not discounting anything because anything is possible, but having just watched this so called documentary and in applying sound scientific logic, I call BS. But that's my opinion.I trained dolphins for 4 years with the Navy in San Diego MK-VI Marine Mammal Systems, I've dove many parts of the world. Never seen a mermaid. I think it's all based on perception. Good luck though. If this had been a true documentary, where is the actual-real footage, why re-enact everything, oh that's right the Navy took it.

This entire program was a means to deliver the information about the sonic testing and its horrendous effects on our Oceans.  However, I would not be surprised in the slightest if an aquatic species very similar to humans does exist.

What exactly are the effects? Whales and dolphins beaching themselves is not a new phenomena, it actually happens quite a bit as a result of hunting techniques to mating to social behavior.  Sonic testing is not destroying the ocean. It's the eco-hazards associated with  the unregulated dumping and poor drilling techniques that harm parts of the seas and oceans. But i'd also say the ocean has always been pretty darn resilient.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!! Folks.....you can't be serious that you believe this is real!!!! Animal Planet even stated a disclaimer in the beginning that the show that it was NOT real!!!! Did you miss that as well as all of the OBVIOUS fakery and CGI? Wow.

Holy crap

I can't believe they could actually air this crap.  All the footage was totally fake. Anyone who has a brain in their head could tell that the mermaid was cgi, and bad cgi at that!!  Also, all the photos that supposedly had like spears in the fish and stuff were totally doctored.  Poeple seriously need to do something about this. I don't know what but....  Honestly the most dispicable thing is that this stuff is actually presented as facts.  It wouldn't be a big deal if they weren't displaying it as facts.  Total bullcrap portrayed as fact.  Even if this crackpot theory had a little credibility to it, which they did present like 1 or 2 halfway credible THEORIES, it wouldn't be enough.   Just like the history channel, it's all about getting the ratings from retards who don't know any better.  The only reason I even watched as much as I did was because I wanted to see if the next line of BS could be anymore rediculous than the last and guess what....it was!!

Well obviously the videos were fake, most likely due to the government. They would put the people in prison so they made the videos as closely as possible to the real footage. But if you look at the scientific evidence of the documentary. It seems possible evolution on land and sea happened and it is fact that they co-mingled so why not people. what makes people to special that they could not have evolution at sea and land. And the evidence is on u right now. At one point your ancestors could have spent a decent amount of time at sea but stayed on land. And the "mermaids" would not have scales it would be somewhat similar to a seal. And the communication of the dolphins and how they would hunt together well we did that with wolves and using the whales as transportation same with horses. When u think about it SCIENTIFICALLY it seems very plausible. and besides were is your SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE saying there are now "mermiads" at one point out there

Why don't Haole people ever open their minds to the possibilitys not everything is made up and if you actually take the time to do the research there are a lot of interesting facts ..... How can anybody explain cave drawings? You didn't do it! There are a lot of things out there that people don't know about this is one of those things in my culture we do believe the stories because of our ancestors who pass down what they have seen and to be honest I hope the government doesn't ever release any information about these beautiful creatures existence because we as humans are not ready to except

Ask Questions

The answer to the mystery is uncovered by asking questionsof ourselves and of government.  Is it really necessary for the governments to use sonar testing/weapons that kill any animal especially beautiful and peaceful sea creatures.  Why? If there is a "mermaid" cover up, they are killing living beings that hunt with spears and have babies.  What the hell is wrong with human nature that kills whales and slaughters unknown species knowingly?

Mark the day, this is the day discovery chan lost any form of credibility. What idiot got permission to show this mermaid crap? I would much rather watch something over the top like solar flares than this mermaid bs. Wow DC, why to go, you have hit an all time low.

You never know what's out there. Have you explored the world? I think not. Scientists find new species everyday, explore the other planets. If they wanted to be found they would have said. "Hey I'm here!" They wish to hide from us, I know I am not a 'nut job'. I have went to college and one thing I learned in Astronomy is everything is a theory until it is proven. We're here , and we're definately not on this world alone. But as someone said earlier, its weird how believeinmermaids.com was seized, odd isn't it? By the governement nonetheless. True, anyone that believes in them are 'nut jobs' and the ones that do? Well I'm sure they'll find them and convince them otherwise. They have years of experience.

existence is plausible until proven otherwise. video obviously fake. documentary fake. it even says it at the end of the credits that some parts of the documentary are fictional. which could mean 99.9% is fake. best evidence is the bloop.

Robert figure it out

I worked for the USgovernment for the last 8 years. You are lied to at least 10 times a day. I ended up quiting because of the bull shit and lies. Dont trust the government. The day they send black suits to my house, there will be a shoot out. I can believe a coverup. Us navel vessels are not suppose to use their sonar clost to shore in the northwest now. Look it up. It was on the news and papers. Screw the US government. Come get me ass holes

Think Outside the Box

It is not surprising to see individuals like Chris and Steve reject a plausable theory from the geco. That attitude is a a big part of our culture as Americans. It is very sad, but we are an egocentric society. It is naive to think we are the only intelligent species in this universe that has over a billion known galaxies  and this earth that has more water than land. Some people just need to educate themselves and stop supporting government power over the people. As it is the government has more than enough power over us, we need to pull back. If you don't believe me, study the members of congress, liberal leaders and pay attention next time you do your taxes.... Wait... You probably work for the government.

i believe

I believe in GOD and that there are many unexplained things out there in the world that we may not understand and may never understand... but i also believe that its not for us to understand or to explain i believe it should be left alone...that its in the LORDS hands...HE is the ultimate and the omega HE is the beginning and the end HE is the ALMIGHTY!!!

No one really knows, everyone stop worrying about it, it shouldnt make us fight! if there is stuff thats dangerous, and causes a harm theyll let us know! But for now chill!

Read the credits at the end of the "documentary" and you'll see that the mermaid stuff is purely fictional.

Dont know if its real or not , but i have seen a alien right above me while in my bed ! he was inside a square black tunnel that was somehow ripped threw my ceiling , had the brightest oranges eyes i ever seen , changed my life forever and how i think

I do believe also the cell phone footage is fake, for many reasons. As for mermaids, well there are so many things we do not know and have not explored. Who knows. It would be nice. But what everyone seems to be forgetting about are all the beached whales. It's outrageous what the government is doing to the sealife. The number of whales were already on the verge of extinction, and now the navy is speeding it up. It needs to stop!!!

If WE are Possible in this immense universe, why is the modern mermaid so hard to accept as a theory. We take our selves for granted & really need to be in ah of our Very own existence. Whatever is going on needs to be left alone in peace. I wouldn't want to be discovered & tested by an unknown species. Humans are so damn egotistical 1) we got to see it to believe it ( if physicists believe in black holes that can swollow up immense stars without having actually seen one) we can sure accept there's more to the ocean then meets the eye. 2) we are the super species ( Can we prove that?) This is all fascinating to me, we are & there's so much more than we can ever imagine. This universe has already proved that.

Ariel the little mermaid a joke? Possibly not.

I had just recently seen "Mermaids: The Body Found" on the Discovery Channel today and all of you who say that the belief in mermaids is absurd or stupid are looking at this with a closed mind. In the documentary they describe the fact that our ancestors may have been attracted to the sea because of food. Nature and evolution does not favor the group of a species that is the strongest or smartest, but the group that is most capable to adapt to change. If the ocean was a hunting ground for a specific group of a species then that group would then adapt to its surroundings making this group more capable of hunting and supporting itself and the others around them. The body of a species will do what it must in order to survive or adapt to its surroundings. The fact that several cultures have their own version of this sea creature is not by coincidence and the fact that many of these cultures were separated by thousands of miles will then only result to the fact that this is possible or actually real. If the government did not want us to believe in mermaids they would then make it big and known to everyone persuading the fact that it is a "fairy tale" and that this would be fake and someone would be crazy out of their right mind to believe in this. This scenario is genius and if i told a group of people stories about something else that is real but persuaded the fact amd made people believe that it was fake and especially if i was in a higher power then they would then resort to the fact and believe themselves that this is fake. Do not strike down the belief that mermaids exist yet do not believe right away that they do. If you look at biology and time there is a possibility and the government does a really good job at hiding things so do some research and decide for yourself. I for one actually believe in the possibility of mermaids.

As much as I want to believe that mermaids are real; that we are evolved from mermaids, there are a few glaring problems with this documentary that I just can't let go. The biggest is the availability of commercial whale watching. According to this documentary, mermaids migrate with whales. They even mention toward the end that they went back out to record the whales, hoping to catch "bloop" sounds. The scientist dude says he saw something in the water. Does it then make sense that nobody would ever report seeing a mermaid while whale watching? If there really is some big government cover-up, why would they allow people to whale watch at all, if there may be a chance of a sighting?

If you ate nothing but a brain building protein for millions of years, did absolutely no drugs, and lived in the water all your life. I think that you have a particularly smart organism on your hands. Possibly vastly more intelligent than us.

Not buying it

I really am not buying it. Why is the person with the camera phone running? The mermaid is not running after you!Is this supposed to be one continuous clip, because the  film skips in several places? Why the heck wouldn't they try to get a better shot once they were at a safe distance? Oh yeah, because it's not real. Last but not least, why did the boy not react? He's got this -thing- in his face and you're saying he's just looking at it?
