Arnold Schwarzenegger & Maria Shriver's Son Hospitalized
Christopher Schwarzenegger, the 13-year-old son of Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger, remains in the Intensive Care Unit following a serious surfing accident that occurred over the weekend.
The teen was boogie boarding in Malibu, California on Sunday (July 17) when he suffered a collapsed lung and multiple broken bones. Maria Shriver was reportedly with her son on the beach when it happened.
"Christopher has been in ICU since Sunday," a source confirmed to People. "Maria has not left his side and is sleeping at hospital."
Meanwhile Arnold and the rest of the Schwarzenegger clan has also been spotted going in and out of the hospital where Christopher is being treated.
Earlier today (July 22) Maria Shriver and her soon-to-be ex-husband released a joint statement regarding their son and his accident. It reads:
"A few days ago our son Christopher suffered an accident at the beach. While it has been a very scary week, Christopher is surrounded by his family and friends. He is a brave boy and is expected to make a full recovery. On behalf of our entire family, we want to sincerely thank the paramedics and lifeguards who responded so swiftly as well as the doctors, nurses, emergency room and hospital staff who have cared for our son. They have been extraordinary to him and to us. We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and ask for respect and privacy for Christopher and our family."
Siblings Katherine and Patrick have also taken to Twitter to thank everyone for their continued support of their brother.
"Thank you guys for ur concern and prayers for my baby brother! He's a tough little guy and getting better! Please keep praying for him! Xo" Katherine wrote Friday.
17-year-old Patrick also tweeted, "Thank you everyone for your messages about my brother. This kid is strongest kid I ever seen. Keep praying".
While Maria and Arnold put their differences aside out of concern for Christopher, their divorce negotiations remain unsettled.
On Wednesday (July 20), the former governor of California responded to Shriver's recent divorce petition and asked a court not to award her spousal support. The 56-year-old also requested that attorney and legal costs be jointly paid.
The former power couple announced their decision to split back in May following 25 years of marriage. Shortly afterwards, Arnold Schwarzenegger came forward to admit that he had fathered a child out of wedlock nearly ten years ago with household staffer Mildred Baena.
Maria Shriver filed for divorce on July 1 citing irreconcilable differences.
