Asteroid "2011 MD" Will Pass By Earth on June 27, 2011

An asteroid will pass by the earth at about 1 pm on June 27, 2011. The asteroid, which astronomers have named "2011 MD", will pass by the earth at about a distance of 7500 miles, pretty close in astronomical terms.

The asteroid will pass between the Earth and the moon's orbit, making it what astronomers refer to as an "intruder."

According to astronomers, the odds of the Asteroid 2011 MD hitting earth are quite small. Asteroid 2011 MD is considered is about 30 feet wide, relatively small.

The asteroid is orbiting the sun at a speed of 29 kilometres per second on a path similar to earth's.
