Bald Eagle Eating Big Fish
I was able to sneak up quite close to this wild bald eagle eating a big fish on the Spanish Banks tidal flats in English Bay (Vancouver). Often when they are eating, or if there is more than one, the eagles are less skittish. If I am careful and approach at intervals, I can get some really good shots.
This eagle was so engrossed in it's big meal it really didn't mind my proximity. A couple of times it flinched and looked like it might fly off when a helicopter then a seaplane flew quite low overhead.
The eagle was actually very close to shore (the tide was just starting to go out); the background noise is of a large group of children on an outing playing in one of the tidal pools, with two lifeguards (and their walkie-talkies up loud) standing close by.
The best part is when the eagle flips the mostly-devoured fish over! You can really see how big it was. I wasn't able to get any footage yesterday (WAY too many people out having fun, and dogs); will be going out in a bit again today.
