I am the former lead educator for the Public Programs dept. for Mystic Aquarium. I was curious, was this animal sensetive to the change in pressure once you surfaced.. As with the creatures around the Hydrthermal Vents, they tend to not survive for very long unless you are imediately prepared with a pressurized tank. Also it would make it difficult to duplicate the environment (Ph., O2 levels) if no water samples were taken from the site of origin.

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. It's not that gross looking - if you think this is bad, obviously you haven't seen very many gross things in your life. It's just a sea creature. What I want to know is why they consider it so disgusting. Doesn't anyone think it looks at least a little like that old Pokemon? Wasn't it called Kabuto or something? I don't remember.Anyway, this link was to a 'larger' picture, but this picture isn't very large or detailed at all. I'm a little disappointed. I would like to find more information on this creature - especially because it looks like a species that is already well-established. Ugh.
