NP Rank:
Berlin to start first Electric Car Charging Network
Berlin will begin the largest effort to set up electirc cars on their streets.
500 power points will be set up around the city to charge the cars.
Companies like Daimler AG and Smart have pledged that they will put 100 electric Smart Cars on the Berlin streets by the end of next year.
Not everyone is happy about this project. Greenpeace points out that no promises have been made about powering these electric cars using power from renewable sources. The environmental group says that if coal powered electricity is used, drivers would be better off using cleaner diesel fuel.

No kidding - yet another reason Berlin sounds like an amazing city to live in. Everyone and their dog seems to be moving there.

amyjudd, I like this story. Berlin is also the world's first city with a hydrogen car fleet the Class A (not in the US availabe?) Hydrogen fuel cell Mercedes. Amazing the Gas station is from french Total. At home in france they do nothing. Same French EDF in London for electric cars, at home in France EDF does nothing.

This picture was taken in Fremont, a neighborhood in Seattle, WA, USA, as I was walking home from the 20th annual Fremont Solstice Parade in June 2008. I thought it was both funny and cool to see a scooter and a Smart Car parked in front of a big SUV.

the picture that i used on my flickr account actually came from this site: http://www.ecogeek.org/component/option,com_tag/tag,smart%20car/
I used it for my own high school IT project, so could you please credit the rightful owner of the photo?? i don't think it's fair to take credit for someone's else's work.
Thanks!

Prototype of the Smart electric car at The Green and Sexy Car Show at The Eden Project, Cornwall, 2007. No petrol - just plug, recharge and go! I drive a Smart car myself but not the electric version as it's not available here in Australia (yet).
