Cabo San Lucas, México.- When tourists braced for the year amid a big party in Playa el Médano suddenly emerged from the sea to lay their eggs a giant leatherback turtle.
The fact surprised dozens of tourists who immediately alerted turtle protection groups to oversee the unusual arrival.
The important thing is that hotels in the place have special groups responsible for providing protection to the turtle.
The arrival was the site of Villa del Palmar, where the area was cordoned off to allow this rare specimen of leatherback turtle put their eggs and then return to the sea.
In protecting the nest participated Manuel Solano and Fernando Lira of Casa Dorada hotel in coordination with Alejandro Gomez of Villas del Palmar hotel.
The turtle has an approximate weight of 500 kg. This species is becoming increasingly scarce and are in real danger of extinction, said Graciela Tiburcio of the group for turtle protection that keeps a 24 hours surveillance in the area.
This species, contemporary to dinosaurs, is not showing signs of recovery and fewer and fewer nests are found off the coast of Baja California Sur.
