Billionaire Branson launches civic carbon challenge in Vancouver

Gregor Robertson, Host of the 2010 Olympics and Mayor of Vancouver, teamed up with billionaire Richard Branson to announce a city-based green initiative. 

Richard Branson's Carbon War Room ramped up its climate change battle Wednesday in Vancouver with a call to civic governments to become global leaders in cutting fossil fuel emissions.

Robertson's plans for the city include taking a leadership role in defining a sustainable city.  So it is no surprise that the City is keen to participate in Branson's plan.  Branson had some encouraging words, saying:
Vancouver is "an obvious choice" of venue to stage the launch of the program

And later he remarked:
Vancouver has actually walked the talk -- or [in] this city should I say cycle the talk -- reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels while the population has grown 30 per cent,
