Gulf Oil Spill Update: Spreads To All 5 Gulf States, Oil Spill Reaches Texas Tar Ball Tests Confirm

It is official, the tar balls on found on the shores of Galveston in Texas over the weekend are actually from the Deepwater Horizon leak and BP oil spill test confirmed on Monday.

Officials on Monday confirmed five gallons of tar balls recovered Saturday on the peninsula, northeast of Galveston, was the first evidence that gushing crude from the Deepwater Horizon well had reached Texas.

Authorities say the consistency of the tar balls indicates the oil might have hitched a ride on a ship and was not carried naturally by currents to the barrier islands of the eastern Texas coast, but there is no way to know for sure.

With the Deepwater Horizon oil spill more than 2 months old Texas is the final state in the Gulf to be impacted by leaking oil. Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, Mississppi, are the gulf states being impacted by the BP oil spill.
