Bull Fire Spreads to Over 5,000 Acres, Destroys 6 Homes
The Bull Fire Has Spread Quickly and Has Already Destroyed Six Homes and is Currently Threatening 1,200 Structures
With over 700 firefighters working in the region, they are facing tough weather conditions on Tuesday as temperatures are expected to reach over 100 degrees in the Riverkern area and the winds are expected to blow between 15 and 20 mph.
The fire was first reported on Monday around 1:45pm as a vegetation fire in Kernville according to Bakersfield.com.
No one has been hurt in the fire, but a shelter has been set up at the Lake Isabella Senior Center at 6405 Lake Isabella Blvd.
The fire is spreading quickly through Riverkern and is currently straddling the Tulare and Kern county lines. It is considered to only be about 5 percent contained at this time.
An interagency news release Tuesday morning reported the following:
* Road closures are in effect on Mountain Highway 99 from Kernville to Fairview.
* Burlando Road is closed, except for resident access.
* Cherry Hill Road and Horse Meadow campground will be closed with access to residents only. California Management advises people with reservations, Tuesday through Thursday, will be relocated to a lake camping area and those with a Friday through Sunday reservation will either be relocated or canceled.
Residents are being warned to stay inside for as long as they can to avoid exposure to smoke and pollution, and if they are close to the fire to be ready to evacuate at any time if the fire continues to spread.
A 24-hour helpline has been set up by the U.S. Forest Service and you can call 760-376-3781, ext. 0 or you can call the Kern County Fire Department at 661-330-0133 for more information.
