Smokers outside offices have long been part of London life but clusters of smokers outside pubs are a fairly recent phenomenon. The smoking group outside our local is usually quite convivial but today it was cold an wet; a solitary smoker lit his cigarette, took no more than a couple of drags, flicked a generous length of unused butt into the gutter and returned to the warmth inside.
