The controversial Cable Bay Development is still a big issue for locals in the Nanaimo area.  City of Nanaimo Council seems bent on agreeing to the developers' requests.  The latest was to rezone heavy industrial land adjoining the proposed development to 'resort' status.  First and second reading was given at the last council meeting with little discussion and only two counsellors in opposition.  The Plan Nananimo Advisory Committee, a committee appointed by City Council, advised against allowing the rezoning of the land in question.

As the letter published in one of the local papers, The Nanaimo Bulletin expresses much of the suspicion and anger associated with this issue.

Now, Cable Bay is again side-stepping the high-density zoning issue by appealing to council to rezone undoubtedly polluted, industrial land to allow a marina, resort and housing.

Why is Nanaimo council even talking to these folks?

Apparently Cable Bay Developments donated significantly to ex-Mayor Korpan’s and mayor-hopeful Diane Brennan’s election campaigns.
