Southern California Wildfire Prompts Evacuations

A wildfire that started on a highway divider on Interstate 15 has now consumed over 500 acres in just two hours. The fire started on I15 at the Cajon Pass, northeast of Los Angeles.

Interstate 15 was closed at the Cajon Pass, just as Angelenos are trying to leave the city for Labor Day Weekend. Southbound 15 is still closed, and Northbound 15 has just been reopened. Nearby homes have been evacuated. The fire is being fought with trucks, planes, and a bulldozer.

If you are are leaving Los Angeles for the long weekend, avoid Highway 15 if at all possible.

The evacuations were in effect south of Joshua Street, east of Baldy Mesa Avenue and west of the 15 Freeway, according to the San Bernardino National Forest Service.

You can see some eyewtiness photos below.

We Californians call it Cajon pass. There used to be some camels kept there. That's a different story.
