Calderon Admits Mexico's Oil Depletion
"We are running out of it" President Calderon said as he referred to oil extraction in Mexico. He regretted the Congress not approving a reform that allowed private resources in the construction of refineries, making it possible to construct several at the same time and not just one in order to compensate low production.
Calderon inaugurated the first part of wind power park EURUS.
“Ya se nos anda acabando”, dijo el presidente Felipe Calderón al referirse a la extracción de petróleo en México al tiempo que lamentó que, ante esa circunstancia, en el Congreso no se haya aprobado una reforma petrolera que permitiera el uso de recursos privados en la construcción de refinerías, pues de esa manera se construirían varias al mismo tiempo y no sólo una a fin de compensar la baja en la producción.

LA VENTOSA, Mexico - Mexico inaugurated one of the world's largest wind farm projects yesterday as the nation looks for alternative energy, in part to compensate for falling oil production.
Mexico is trying to exploit its rich wind and solar potential after relying almost exclusively on petroleum for decades. With oil production down by 9.2 percent in 2008, Mexico is turning to foreign companies, mainly Spanish, to tap its renewable riches.

Alternative Energy is so important - I can't stress this enough. At least Mexico is starting to do something about it.

Hmmmm, maybe Mexico should phone Canada and see if it can get in on Canada's notion to 'harmonize' our energy needs with those of the US. Isn't that what the tri-lateral North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was for? Did someone forget to call Mexico?
