Well once again it seems that winter has a few surprises up his sleeves for the residents of Northeastern Michigan.
After over two feet of snow in two weeks (counting the 5 inches we received last night 12-23-2008), the weather is starting to warm.
We had temps in the single digits to mid teens for the last week, and at this moment the temps have jumped to 34°F and climbing.
This is bad news in so many ways.
We have rain in our forecast in a couple days, which will cause all the snow we have to lose it's fluffiness into chilling water, which can not drain because of the snow covering all of the street systems.
Following this warm spell, we have the temps dropping below freezing once again, which will in turn cause all of the wet, heavy snow and water from the melting everywhere to freeze solid.
This is always a mess when it happens, and Northern Michigan is notorious for losing power during these times of freezing after the thaw.
I will be writing an article later today on surviving the deep freeze without gas and power, where I will draw on my experiences surviving in these situations, sometimes for days without power or heat and having 6 kids.
until then, enjoy the latest pics of the freezing snow and icicles of death caused by the warming temps.
