This spring 35 cows from his herd died from avian salmonella, the cows grazed the same pasture as the mobs of defecating Canada geese. This incident cost the farmer an estimated $75,000.

That's why Federated Farmers in NZ reckons the best sort of Canada Goose is the sort that's been roasted, stuffed and nicely carved.

I like this story. It's good stuff. Although turkeys always taste better than geese. Interesting that an imported bird is causing so much trouble. Maybe we should import some sort of predatory cat to help control it? Just kidding.

becky1234, interesting story especially when you read how much comes out the back end of a goose as compared to a sheep. Maybe farmers should be looking to farm them rather than kill them off. It's not as if farmers are happy with their prices for lamb anyway. Is there a market for goose?

Lots of good ideas here. Unfortunately while the NZ sheep farmer is not making much money I don't think they'd make any more by farming geese. After all how many people have tried goose? Not many I suspect, and I bet that of those who have tried it not many liked it.
