An army of 12 million bees on the loose!
ST. LEONARD, N.B. — Twelve million honey bees were on the loose Monday in northwest New Brunswick after a truck overturned on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Police say the transport truck, carrying 330 crates of bees, was travelling on a ramp on the highway near St. Leonard when the load shifted and the truck overturned.
“This smashed the crates of bees inside the truck,” said RCMP Sgt. Derek Strong.
Strong said the accident occurred shortly after 6 a.m.
Rain was keeping the bees under control, he said, but the Department of Agriculture was called for assistance.
With a top speed of 28 kilometres per hour the swarm could reach Victoria BC sometime in the second week of July. Baton down the hatches, head for the hill, the bees are coming the bees are coming. Perhaps now’s a good time to take that long overdue European vacation, hey Queen bee catch me if you can.

Do escaped bees always stick together in a swarm (pack? murder? pride?). If so, why?

Bees are blue collar workers and if you’ve ever witnessed a labour strike you probably have a good idea as to why the pack sticks so closely together.

Wow... seems like a stretch to think that they'd head directly to BC from New Brunswick. There's a lot of good habitat in their current area to 'settle down' in. I get the warning, though, thanks!

A major bee spill of this magnitude deserves some buzz. Thanks for the heads up.
