San José del Cabo, B.C.S.- After citizens groups protested over five months, the government of Baja California Sur decided to cancel construction of a shopping center in Palmilla beach, located in San José del Cabo.

The Colectivo de Resistencia Pericú group announced this, after  was presented a new draft to the city council that will be sustainable  and that includes only the construction of palapas, showers, parking and a food kiosk.

The resistance group was protesting because the government planned to make a millionaire investment in that construction would be done in full stream. They said it was money thrown away and wasted due difficult economic conditions in Mexico.

The Colectivo de Resistencia Pericú group said it will now oppose the privatization of the beach, where traditional fishermen are working more than 50 years.
