Cardboard clothes hanger to save planet

The wire coat hanger is the bane of my closet. They don't work well, I can't get rid of them, and they are sharp. A British company has come up with a solution which will not only save my closet but also the planet.
But have you ever wondered where the clothes hangers you use to hang your clothes came from, and moreover, the effect these hangers will have on the environment?
Wannabeco’s new ‘Becohanger’ aims to solve that quandary.
The Becohanger is a 100% recyclable and biodegradable clothes hanger. Its aim is to replace the conventional wire coat hanger found in every household across the UK distributed predominantly by dry-cleaners and commercial laundries.
"We have worked with British dry-cleaners to design a product that is environmentally sound and strong enough to do the job," said Toby Massey, Head of Design and Operations at Wannabeco. He adds, “These dry-cleaners have been striving over the past few years to reduce their carbon footprints and become more ecologically friendly”.
The Becohanger doubles up as an media space, offering brands and services a geographically flexible and ecologically friendly advertising platform.
"Each year 100 million wire coat hangers are put into UK landfill where they take centuries to degrade - it is this we are trying to prevent," said Alexander Beattie, Head of marketing at Wannabeco.

ryan nadel, I like this story. It's good stuff.
IrelandPodcast, I disagree--I don't think this is "fishy" at all. Had it been an advertising release from the company's website, that would have been one thing. But this highlight is from the Environment Times, which posts news, including environmental crimes and offenses.

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Wire hangers store coats, hoodies and sweaters on Oakview Elementary School's Lost-and-Found rack. Most of these clothes (and their hangers) go unclaimed and will be given to Goodwill at the close of the school year.

Just a little update since this article was written. Wannabeco has now opened a sister company called Becothings... Becothings now sell a range of cardboard hangers for various applications. They have cardboard safely hangers for hospitals and cardboard coathangers for shops.
And the best bit is you can now buy becohangers in John Lewis stores nationwide!
