China Landslide: 4 Dead & 53 Missing in Sichuan After Heavy Rains

4 died and least 53 are missing due to a landslide in Sichuan province, China that was caused by heavy rains in a remote mountainous area.

The Sichuan landslide happened at 3:00 a.m. in July 24, 2009. Moreover, the China landslide blocked a river and a 3 kilometers of highway, in addition to electric and communication lines. 93 people, who were stranded by the landslide in China, have already been rescued.  

The victims were construction labourers who had been working on a dam in Kangding county, an area traditionally populated by ethnic Tibetans in Sichuan province, according to a statement on the civil affairs ministry's website.

According to the civil affairs ministry, the workers were building the [1.8 billion dollar] Changhe hydroelectric dam on the Dadu river when the landslide occurred.
