Video of Clelia II in Rough Seas off Antarctica

The Clelia II, on a cruise to Antarctica, lost an engine in high seas while navigating the Drake Passage. Video shows the Clelia II, carrying 160 passengers and crew, getting rocked violently.

55mph winds and 35-foot waves tossed the Clelia II, which was able to make its way back to port in Ushuaia, Argentina, accompanied by The National Geographic Explorer. Video of the Clelia II getting tossed was shot by a Fiona Stewart and Garett McIntosh aboard the Explorer and it got posted to jonbowermaster.com. Russia Today picked up the video, and it spread from there.

The Clelia II is a small luxury cruiser operated by Great Lakes Tour Company; normally it plies the more-placid water of the Great Lakes.

Goodness, that ship is taking quite a beating!  The folks on board must really have been tossed around.   The National Geographic folks and their ship's officers and quartermaster certainly met a difficult challenge here.  Well done!Maybe it is time to take ships like the Clelia II back to where she was designed for (in this case the Great Lakes).
