If you fancy your chances at the next Miss World Competition, and you are a young woman (I’m not sure whether transvestites are eligible), and you have a nice bikini, you should have a go. But remember, when it comes to talking the talk, you must come out in favour of World Peace.

Tackling Climate Change is a bit like that.

We all support it (apart from the sceptics) and some of us are doing what we can to change. But when the chips are down, as they are now in Poznan in Poland, then it is a different matter.

The BBC’s Jonny Dymond says that aluminium producers in German are up in arms about the proposals.  The Emissions Trading Scheme requires that industries buy any Permits To Pollute they need to carry out their production. For aluminium producers the cost of this, together with the electricity costs entailed would raise their prices by 25 per cent.  That is simply to much to remain competitive.

Rainer Baake, from the opposition, said at the conference that “everyone talks about climate change, but when it becomes serious, then they all back down’.

The original Kyoto Agreement let the developing countries off the hook.  Now that they are discussing the new agreement for 2012, China and India are furious about being required to cut their own emissions.

Talking about climate change: that is the easy part.

Long may we all talk!

Dec 12 Addition:  It look like the EU targets of 20-20-20 (20% reductions, 20% renewables, by 2020) will not actually happen!

The picnic of world leaders never ends, they waste the taxpayers money in these conferences without any outcome.

Nothing can be done about the climates.  Especially by politicians.

Don't forget the fuel they use, and all the paperwork! One of the reasons a lot of young people are so turned off any news programmes is that all this talk, talk and no walk, walk is really boring to them.

They could talk over the Internet in Video conferencing and save a lot of money and reduce pollution. No they have to party. I know that talking tete a tete is some time better and hall way talks are a great many on those conferences and maybe they help, however more often then not they don not help and just end up being a lot of arm twisting by the Supper Powers.

Question - Is Climate change a REALITY or SIMPLY a fantasy?. Nikola Tesla said that ANYONE having CONTROL of the WEATHER would have ULTIMATE CONTROL and GIVEN that PROJECT "POPEYE" entailed WEATHER CONTROL in the VIETNAM WAR [ denied by the American Gov for years yet admitted over time ] JUST exactly WHAT is the THE current situation?. As WEATHER MODIFICATION COMPANIES do EXIST in the US thus providing equitable PROFITS in doing so from INSURANCE COMPANIES to what extent are they operating NOW?. Chemtrails are  Sky Bound and few notice them in LOOKING UPWARDS however CHEMICALS are INVOLVED which MUST AFFECT the HEALTH of the PUBLIC below!. One also has to EXPLORE the provision of HAARP TOO in what its OBJECTIVES are concerning RESEARCH as to the IONISPHERE to which SOME GOV'S SUPPORT!. WHATEVER the OUTCOME, CLIMATE CHANGE by HUMAN HANDS is a NOW a REALITY and IF A FLOOD NOW heads your way ARE YOU SIMPLY to "THINK" it an ACT of MOTHER NATURE / GOD?. Its all very well INSURANCE COMPANIES providing POLICIES that EXEMPT CLAIMS by an ACT of GOD but IF GOVERNMENTS  do have INDIRECT CONTROL over the WEATHER does this not mean that such policies are NULL AND VOID  - As sold by  FINACIAL MARKETS that PROFIT from them TOO!. OH - What a tangled WEB we WEAVE but who's doing the WEAVING?.

I had a feeling God was behind that flood...

So what you're saying is they are blowing smoke?

(sorry, couldn't resist)

I have said before, we need to start a 'Home First' movement, to begin the practice in our homes, and share these practices with our family and friends, and make it a lifestyle.

It is a lot of hot air!  I do hate all the attention that these 'summits' get when we all know they usually fail.

Your Home First movement sounds interesting.  I checked out solar panels (+govt subsidy) but it did not make economic sense.  And our local authority is horribly behind the times with recycling!

Yes, it stinks here in Michigan as well!

I want to do more, but keep hitting roadblocks...

Solar panels that are not efficient and extremely expensive, no alternative fuels, and worse of all, the only recycling we have in my area is if you turn your old junk into Christmas presents for the family...hmmm, note to self.

Now that human-impacted global warming is accepted, except by the lunatic fringe, the problem now is that it is not MY impact you need to worry about.  Over THERE is where the real problem is.

It all matters, Many small impacts make a big impact and so on...

Individuals make up to one third of the total pollution and industry another third I believe, Wars have a major impact as well... It all matters and where to start? Well We better start some where.

I agree...it reminds me of the time I saw a forest fire in California destroying homes, and there was a guy out there in his yard with a garden hose...

You laugh, but he held the fort down long enough until the firetrucks came and he essentially saved his home.

We can all do something.

Think of ants...one ant alone can do nothing, but 10,000 ants, or 1 million ants...

(Thank's Pixar and Bug's Life)

I think everyone with names beginning with A through  (and including) D should start to do something first!
