Hillary Clinton slams Al Gore, Obama at 'Compassion Forum'

Climate Change protests worldwide are on the increase, as activists are feeling like there is no other way to reach out to big businesses about the damage they are doing to the environment.

Protestors have chained themselves to coal belts in Sydney, to blockades in the Netherlands.

As coal becomes a more popular source of energy, frustration increases as it directly affects the environment.

"What I see is - in the last year - it just exploded and went from being a sizable amount of people, several thousands of very active youth all around the country, to just hundreds of thousands of young people," said Brianna Cayo Cotter, communications director for Energy Action Coalition, a network of North American youth climate activists. "I feel like the floodgates are about to open. We have the numbers. We have the skills. We have the passion."

In Europe, where some 50 new coal plants are being planned, Greenpeace is leading a continent-wide campaign [PDF] to halt eight upcoming projects in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. In the United Kingdom, plans are under way to build the country's first coal plant in 34 years. Activists have escalated their opposition to the proposed construction this year.

In the United States, a nationwide fight against 150 proposed new coal-fired power plants that began four years ago has put a serious dent in the coal industry's plans. Through the courts, government lobbying, and acts of civil disobedience, activists have helped cut in half the number of new coal power stations.

Global warming and climate change is such a big issue, especially with Obama coming into the White House, and more and more attention is being paid to it.

I agree with you on the fact that this is a serious issue.

It is all about money and the economy. Most of us want sustainability. We do have to speak up.

We see corporation as greedy, but we have to look at ourselves too. What luxuries are we willing to give up in order to maintain a healthy earth? To me Simplicity is the ultimate luxury. What we own, owns us.

Less is more.

Yes, climate protest has to go up and we need more attention. Global warming is a bigger crisis then the financial crisis.

We need change, we need sustainable energy, electric cars. We have to transite to a sustainable society. Climate will force us.

Global warming is political spam

i must disagree.

pollution and environmental damage are definitely a problem, but they don't cause global warming.  i've studied climate change and there is no threat from global warming.. if you need facts let me know.

i don't think it's a good idea to "cap greenhouse gases" yet, causing electricity rates to "skyrocket"; at least not now when the economy is so fragile.

please don't attack me because i don't believe in "global warming".. let's have a debate; i'm sure of myself on this topic.

"you fool!  earth's temperatures have been increasing and the ice caps are melting!!  we must act now!!!"

actually, the earth's temperatures have only fluctuated by a few degrees and no more since the last great ice age 10,000 years ago (when it warmed 20 degrees in 50 years).  we have yet to reach the warmth of a thousand years ago, and at this rate we will reach that point ... probably never, but it's possible in 100 years.  we're more likely to go into another little ice age, which would we much more catasrophic.

"oh yeah!  what about the ice caps melting!!  and the number of species going extinct!!!"

are due to environmental destruction there is a slight shift of the magnetic poles right now, with the north pole shifting toward siberia for example, where some areas the climate will change.  the ice caps are not melting away except in the summer when they do seasonally, but now they are freezing more rapidly in the fall.  as for species extinction, it's absolutely ridiculous that species which survived much greater temperature changes would die off now.  the polar bears are flourishing compared to 30 years ago, and tropical species that are becoming extinct are due to environmental destruction for Al Gore's mahogany table & filet mignon.

"what about the crazy weather, like droughts and hurricanes!!!"

if the earth was warming significantly, rainfall would increase worldwide due to evaporation.  the sahara desert was more like savanna during the times when the earth did warm significantly.  as for hurricanes, it seems that they are not increasing in frequency.  Katrina's destructive force was due to the broken levies that flooded the below-sea-level city, so it wasn't the power of Katrina, it was the weakness of our man -made structures.

A fluctuation of even 2 degrees has devastating consequences. I do invite you to follow the research done by the University of Tokyo and Osaka over the past 30 years now.

Actually Global warming does not mean that rain fall does increase World wide, in some areas yes and others no, some areas will enter an Ice age due to global warming and other decertification...

I think you do over simplify and refuse to look at the problem objectively or informatively.

Not liking Al Gore should not cloud once mind and cause for irresponsible statements.

. . . That one won't do anything to climate.  A physical pole shift is possible and that would affect climate worldwide but it isn't happening rapidly at all.

On what do you base your opinion?

Debates have to be based on sound Science and logic not on statements nor believes.

At least as far as issues such as climate change go... What study, why, when, where, how, by whom, for whom, financed by....?

'Climate Change' or 'Global Warming' likely the most favourite issue accross the globe, by the political 'oddsmaker', But people should know about the awareness, The addition of greenhouse gasses and aerosols has changed the composition of the atmosphere.Human activities have substatially added the amount of heat trapping in the atmosphere. The burning of fuels and biomass (living matter such as vegetation) has also resulted in emissions of aerosols that absorb heat, and reflect light. We need change, send the message to the world, about the crisis, We must teach our children to conserve energy with new sustaiinable technology. We have to repower the world, not only America, but worldwide.

In the final question and answer round, on Miss Earth 2008, the final four were asked on "what they would tell US president-elect Barack Obama about the state of the global environment if ever they were to meet."

Miss Earth 2008 Karla Paula Henry, responded by saying "she would encourage Obama to emplement environmental knowledge in the curriculum of schools not just in the US, but also in the Philippines."

. . . Today is -9, it was much colder last night.  That would be -23 metric.  Please send some of that Global Warming, or at least some sunlight.

Ug ug! Cave man see strange thing in sky. Must sacrific goat to please angry gods. Ug! Ug!

The theory  of CO2 and climate CRISIS is 23 years old, La Nina delayed it meaning a weather pattern is now more powerful than all of the forces of global warming that was supposed to melt the planet and our kids think that they won't have grand kids.

Global wamring will be to some what WMD's were to neocons. Lies and myths.

This is an embarrassing time for humans, not because of pollution, but because we think that if we gave more taxes to politicians, they will LOWER THE TEMPERATURE OF THE PLANET. This is insanity.

This isn't about pollution. Global warming is an aging theory pushed by the benifiting poltical left, pandering politicians, PR firms and corporate media. These scientists that the politicians and media cherry pick are consultants, not gods.

We are living longer than at any time in human history and our air is cleaner than the smoggy 70's thanks to a successful environmental movement started by Rachel Carson who is rolling in her grave seeing these fear mongering techinicians of blame and crisis.

Respect our world. Protect our world. Preserve our world. Stop the fear!

The debate is over about whether or not climate change is real. irrefutable evidence from around the world, including extreme weather events, record temperatures, retreatingglaciers, and rising sea levels--all point to the fact climate change is happening now and rates much faster than previously thought.

The consensus includes the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, consisting of over 2,000 scientist from 100 countries. The findings of the panel have been approved by the National Academies of Science of each of the G8 countries, along China, India, and Brazil.

SAVE THE EARTH, SAVE THE PLANET!!!

This is a media and cultural fad no matter how much you WANT to believe that this misery is going to happen. Its a joke. A very sad joke to say here, take my money and lower the temperature. Are we all insane?

I suggest you learn both sides of the issue before putting up the sign that says THE END IS NEAR. Why would you hope for this so called crisis to happen. You must want it to happen if you do not know both sides of the issue.

Soon the media will find a bad guy in all of this and the theory of CO2 will be thrown on the rest of the pile with Y2K, BigFoot, UFO's and Eugenics.

Be a responsible evnironmentalist because this aging theory is leading us all down the wrong road.

There is plenty of debate that the panering politicians, corporate media, benfiiting left and PR firms are not TELLING you.

Do you like good news? Do you like telling our kids they are headed for a climate crisis?

Start here: and start to be realisti, think for yourself and stop this silly fear.

The truth is that the climate is still the great mystery it always was. We just don't know. Now imagine how different the world would be if we DID know climate. Think of all the lives that would be saved.

IPCC, what a joke!

I sent the Union Of Concerned Scientists $18.00 and BINGO I"m a member. AND a scientist? Now do you know how the internet and media spin makes the numaber of scientists seem just a little high?

There is plenty of scientific debate out there and I suggest all of you glowbull whiners get ahead of the curve.

And stop sighting thousands of scientists as a measure. It's another way to deflect the issue to morality. As in how dare you deny the crisis. As if deniers hate the planet.

Obviously the climate is changing as it always has and always will. Nothing stays the same. The burning question is what is responsible for this and is it really changing at a more rapid pace? I for one am deeply concerned about the melting of the polar ice-caps for example. Not only will the ocean levels rise as this continues, but the ice tends to reflect quite a bit of solar energy away from the surface. Without this happening, won't the temperature (and the melting) happen even faster?

The good news in my opinion is that people everywhere are waking up to this challenge. We still have to wrap our heads around the source of the biggest CO2 emissions and act to curtail them ASAP. No point in feeling all guilty about being a polluter when your contribution to global warming is so infinitesimally small in comparison to heavy industry.

Heavy polluters have used the waterways and the atmosphere as a free garbage dump for altogether too long now. They should be identified and fined like the environmental criminals that they are. The fines ( that ought to reflect the severity of the violation ) ought to be used to implement green, environmentally sustainable industry to replace the dirty, out-moded, rape and pillage style business model.

Global pollution is a serious problem. Global warming is a political construct to get us to accept a carbon tax. Learn the difference before you end up living in the dark.
