Clorox and Sierra Club by greenpays

Back in April of this year, Clorox Chairman and CEO and Sierra Club’s  Executive Director visited the New York Stock Exchange to kick off Earth Week while promoting Clorox’s new Green Works products.  I’ve seen the Green Works products on the shelf, but had not investigated these new cleaning products.   So what’s the deal on these anyways?

First of all, this is the first new line that Clorox has lauched in about 20 years, plus they are environmentally friendly.  So what types of products is the line offerieng?  There’s the All-Purpose Cleaner, Natural Glass & Surface, Natural Toilet Bowl, Natural Dilutable, and Natural Bathroom Cleaner.  All are made from natural, renewable resources, are biodegradable and are 99% petrochemical free - containing no phosphorus or bleach.  There’s no aerosol used, and no animal testing.  So what’s the cost you’re asking?  Pricing ranges from $2.99 to $3.39 per product, which they claim makes it at least 50% cheaper than other green products.  These green products are available in 24,000 stores throughout the U.S.  I couldn’t obtain a list of retailers, but I can tell you I’ve seen them at Albertson’s supermarket.

As far as the EPA is concerned, Green Works Products meet their Designed for the Environment (DfE) standards, which are the agency’s toughest safety standards.  Then, if you check scorecard.org, a great pollution information site,  it looks like Clorox facilities for the most part are pretty clean (no pun intended!).  This is great news considering that Clorox was named one of the “Dangerous dozen” cemical companies by the Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) in 2004.  So if your looking to do a little cleaning, they might just be worth checking out!
