There is international consensus amongst scientists and governments that non-renewable carbon based fossil fuels such as this coal fired power station are causing climate change through the emission of so called greenhouse gases.
The energy sector is the largest emitter of co2 in the UK ahead of mass transport - automotive and aviation.
Many are suggesting its time to consider adopting de-centralised sustainable energy sources including thin-film solar, wind, hydro and tidal power.

A UK treasury commissioned report by Sir Nicoloas Stern concluded that the economic and social costs of climate change seriously outweight the costs necessary to avoid the most serious impacts.
""our actions over the coming few decades could create risks of major disruption to economic and social activity, later in this century and in the next, on a scale similar to those associated with the great wars and the economic depression of the first half of the 20th century."
There is also discussion of this issue in a recent Royal Commission report into energy and climate change which points out that one of the most obvious opportunities for reducing climate change is to lower our demand through more efficient energy use -
